This is very weird. I completed DSII (using the BW format) then started playing BW, which obviously I can't do if I haven't completed DSII in the first place.

However, when I try to increase the size of my party so I can include a pet, it tells I can't do this until I'm a veteran (I've tried doing this in both DSII and BW).

Now how odd is that? I HAVE to be a DSII Veteran in order to play BW in the first place, right?

I would point out that I had no problems doing this when I played them through the first and the only reason I started from scratch again was because I preferred to play as a ranger rather than a melee.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you beaten the Broken World campaign on regular? You must complete both the original campaign and the new one on regular to become a Veteran, at which point you have to start the Veteran version of the original campaign to actually add a new party member.
