I've run into a problem when starting a game in Veteran Mode.

I've finished the game three times with three separate characters and each has the same problem: when I start the next section in veteran mode, I can't get a 'cage fragment' to spawn at the first Morden tower. The cage breaks, I can see the cage fragment fly in the air (animation), but there's no 'cage fragment' label or item to interact with.

I've also reloaded the mercenary level game to see if I can get a cage fragment to spawn there and take it forward, they don't spawn anymore. I'm stuck.

Yes, I've tried the Z key. I've tried maintaining a cage fragment in inventory, both personal and the storage locker; it despawns in both (to prevent cheating and bypassing the obstacle, no doubt).

I've turned this problem over to Microsoft and GasPowered Games to no avail. They've provided no answers.

In effect, in the veteran game, you get to the first tower, and there's no cage fragment, therefore there's no torch, you can't destroy the tower, and you can't continue on in the game. 'game over'.

Anyone ever run into this; and how is it solved?

Probably you have defined any item filter!?

Check once 'Options' => 'Game' => 'Item Filter' for normal/unmagic weapons.
If 'pick up' and 'label' checkbox is unchecked, that would one possibilty why torches won't appear in the game.

Brilliant! Sometimes the best answers are the simple ones. I just never considered that an item so key to the course of the game would be listed in with the 'mundane' weapons that I had filtered in the course of learning to play the game.

Problem solved. Thanks much!

haha Yeah I had this problem yesterday. It did not take long for me to remember: "Oh, stick = weapon = crap. Time to fix the filter!"
