Hello all, I just recently lend dungeon siege II from the library (it's legal in Holland, don't worry ) And I just installed it. The installation went fine, but when i click on the image on my desktop, the mouse goes into a 'sand glass-time-thing (I don't know the proper word in English for it), for only 1 millisecond and then it does nothing. No start-up at all.
So I tried installing the patch (v.2.2), and the install worked fine, but then again, I get the sand-glass for one milliesecond and nothing happens. After that I tried installing a new driver for my Radeon 9600 video graphics card (something with 'catalyst'), but it didn't help the problem.

And just a minute ago I uninstalled and installed the game again but the same problem!
Can anyone help me? I really want to play this game, but I just don't know what to do

As long as you meet all the system requirements, and have updated all your drivers (including DirectX, sound, motherboard...) the game should run (I have a Radeon 9600 too). Check your Windows Event Viewer for errors... (Right-click My Computer and go to Manage).

If you don't find answers, you'd do better to ask your question on the GPGarage: http://garage.gaspowered.com/?q=

Gas Powered Garage says in one of their FAQ's:

Q: When I double-click on the DS2 icon, nothing happens).
A: That's a tricky one to diagnose. If _nothing_ is happening (other than maybe the Windows cursor goes to an hourglass for a second), it means something is preventing the DungeonSiege2.exe file from running.

One reason might be the copy protection. Some CPs won't run if they detect certain types of software. There have been reports of folks having trouble with CDSpace, Daemon Tools and Alcohol installed - disabling them is a good test to see if that's the problem. Some have reported problems with a program called AlienGuise, installed on some Alienware computers.

Of course, another issue is corrupted installation. So, re-installing is a good test too - be sure to uninstall the current version first.

If neither of these work, it gets harder. Try seeing what's running in the taskbar (even the icons on the right) and exit any that are not essential (like video/sound drivers) to see if that makes a difference.

But i've terminated everything that is not essential to windows but it still doesn't work!
Anyone with the same problem?

You could try the 'GAME HANGS AT INTRO' solution (halfway down the page at http://garage.gaspowered.com/?q=dsiiknownissues

Thanks, but that doesn't work either because it just doesn't start at all. Only an hourglass at my cursor for a second and then nothing.

Have you looked in the GPGarage forums?

Yes, I did, and I posted a message there, here, on a microsoft board and on another board (gamebanshee), but you guys are the fastest ones with replies
Now I've installed the game at my dad's laptop and there it works fine, but I really rather have it on my own computer...

I took a quick look in the GPG forums until I found a topic (on page 5/20 within the Self-Help section) which might help give you an idea...

Ah, I see! I'll look into it and post here if it will work

EDIT: nope it still doesn't. I really don't know what to do. I'm very irritated! I think I'll have to do it on my dad's laptop for now then.
