Hey folks,

Before you post, make sure you read the README.DOC file that comes with Dungeon Siege. You can find this via START->Programs->Dungeon Siege->Troubleshooting->Dungeon Siege Readme. In many cases your problem may be resolved in that readme.

If you are experiencing speed problems in Dungeon Siege, make sure there are no background applications running. Also, make sure you defrag your harddrive once in a while.

Some problems may already be solved on this forum. Take a bit of time looking through the threads (especially the ones with the "(sticky)" tag) and see if the problems & solutions apply to you.

If you have KaZaA installed on your computer, you definitely want to read this page. Otherwise, if you are running any other file sharing programs in the background, it's eating up precious bandwidth that could be used for smoother MP games.

In addition, please keep in mind that overclocked machines, as well as computers experiencing heat problems -- especially with AMD processors -- may be the cause of the problem. Make sure your processor is not overclocked, and your computer in a well-ventilated/cool setting if you're experiencing crashes - especially if they crash constantly after some time in the game.

Finally, if any of the above does not solve your problem, please gather the following information before you post and include them in your message. Remember, the more details, the better:

1.) A Detailed description of the problem - the more details the better.

BAD:
Dungeon Siege crashed. HELP!!!

GOOD:
Dungeon Siege crashed when I exit out of Dungeon Siege after playing a Multiplayer Game. When it crashed it opened a new window with the following error:
"Exception error found at 0x000014: Access Denied"

(The errors mentioned above are ficticious)

If your OS is Windows NT, 2000, or XP, be sure to turn "auto-reboot after crash" off. This is in Control Panel->System->Advanced->"Startup and Recovery" on 2000/XP, and in one of the tabs in Control Panel->System (Sorry for being vague folks... I only own Windows 2000)

2.) Does your computer meet, or exceed, the minimum requirements specified by the game?

The minimal specifications for Dungeon Siege are:

  • Windows XP, 2000, Me, and 98
  • PC with P3-333MHz equivalent or higher processor.
  • 128MB of system RAM
  • 1 GB available hard drive space
  • 8MB 3D Graphics Card
  • DirectX 8.0 compatible sound card with speakers/headphones
  • Multiplayer: 56kbps for 1-4 players, broadband or LAN for 5+ players

3.) Have you tried rebooting your computer?

4.) Your operating system, and any service packs installed (go to Settings->Control Panel->System to get this information)

5.) What type of video card is in your computer? Include as much information as possible:

  • Brand & Model (i.e. "GAINWARD PowerPack III")
  • Chipset (i.e. "nVidia GeForce 3 Ti200")
  • Amount of Memory on the card (i.e. "64MB")
  • Bus (i.e. "AGP")
  • Driver Version (i.e. "Detonator 28.32")
  • Is it overclocked?

6.) What type of sound card is in your computer?

  • Brand & Model (i.e. "Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Platinum")

7.) If you know what type of chipset (Intel, AMD, nForce, VIA, ALI, etc.) your motherboard is based on, please mention it here.

8.) What CPU brand and speed? Is the CPU overclocked? If so, what is its original speed?

9.) Is the latest version of DirectX installed on your computer?

10.) Do you have the latest drivers for your computer's hardware? (i.e. Video Card, Sound Card, Network Card, etc.)

11.) Do you have the latest patch applied? (As of 4/9/2002, there are no known patches for Dungeon Siege. Skip this question; it's here for future reference )

12.) Did you install/play from a burnt backup of Dungeon Siege, or did you install/play from the original Dungeon Siege CD?

13.) If you are having multiplayer connection problems, is you computer behind a router/firewall, or NAT server? If so, please answer the following questions with as much detail as possible:

  • Who is your ISP?
  • What is the brand & model of the router/firewall?
  • Do you know how to configure your router/firewall?
  • Have you tried opening the ports in the readme.doc file included with the game? (Start->Programs->Dungeon Siege->Troubleshooting->Dungeon Siege Readme)

    ---
After you have gathered all the information, please include them in your post and then describe the problem with high detail. Be as specific as possible.
    ---
If you are playing a “Warez” or CD-Cracked Copy of the game, there will be no support for your problem until your installation of the game is from the original Dungeon Siege CDs. Normally a re-install of the game from the original CDs will fix this problem. We do not support them because warezed/CD-Cracks modify the game and introduces more problems that we do not support.

It is not the responsibility and duty of staff and forumers to help you with your particular problem. This forum is present for skilled forumers, HG Staff, and developers that have spare time on their hands, to assist you in time of technical needs.

Good luck, and I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.
