Packmule

Packmule
Class: Melee
Attack: Kick
Spell: N/A
Power: Staggering Kick
Emanation: Reveal Treasure

A classic from the original Dungeon Siege, the pack mule is the cheapest and one of the first of the pets available to you in the game. At a mere 300 gold these pack animals can be bought in the Eirulan pet shop. The pet mule’s most notable attribute is, of course, its ability to carry loot. A fully mature pack mule has an inventory three times the size of any regular party member.

Don’t let its docile appearance and saddlebags fool you though, the pack mule still has an amazingly potent kick and will defend its owner with its life. The staggering kick power will stun any enemy within 3.5 meters for 8 seconds (as well as take a fair bit of damage).

Finally, its Emanation will instantly open any chests and smash any barrels within 4 meters, perfect for either the packrats among us who want to get every bit of loot or the sloths who are just too lazy to manually click every barrel and chest.

Scorpion Queen

Scorpion Queen
Class: Ranged
Attack: Scorpion Sting
Spell: N/A
Power: Explosive Sting
Emanation: Evasion Aura

Available at the Eirulan pet shop for 350 gold, this loyal arachnid will fire her deadly stingers from an impressive range of 12 meters. As the only ranged non-magical pet, scorpion queens are useful when you need to either lure an enemy or just want to have some backup support without having to worry about its mana running out.

The Scorpion Queen’s power will launch a poison filled stinger at the enemy, which will explode on impact doing high damage over 3.5 meters. It takes a few seconds to charge up though, so don’t count on her being able to cast it just when she’s about to be knocked unconscious.

When a Scorpion Queen reaches the adult phase, she will emit an emanation that will give all players a 20% chance to dodge attacks, these include, spells, swords and arrows.

Ice Elemental

Ice Elemental
Class: Nature Magic
Attack: Frost Bolt
Spell: N/A
Power: Frost Aura
Emanation: Ice Resistance

To the untrained eye, an ice elemental can quickly be overlooked in any winter setting. A collection of shards held together a by a thick mist, the ice elemental is an entity composed of pure cold, and any adventurer willing to part with 500 gold at any pet shop will find themselves a useful ally richer.

The Ice Elemental attacks with a Frost Bolt that does damage while have a chance to freeze enemies. Its power is the Frost Aura. When activated, the elemental will summon an aura of intense cold around itself, damaging and freezing enemies that get near. When an Ice Elemental reaches the adult phase, it emits an emanation that will give all party members in a 4 meter radius a 40% ice resistance, as well as boosting mana regeneration by a good 150%.

An ice elemental that sees a lot of combat will go through its mana reserves pretty quickly, so make sure it always has a few mana potions in his inventory for when he’s out of mana, this won’t happen as often once he reaches adult phase.

Dire Wolf

Dire Wolf
Class: Melee
Attack: Bite
Spell: N/A
Power: Furious Howl
Emanation: Vicious Counter

The Dire Wolf can be bought at the Eirulan pet shop for 500 gold after helping mage Rokhar summon one from the mysterious rift dimensions. With a powerful bite and paw swipe, the dire wolf makes an excellent substitute for any melee adventurer in your party. It’s a howl power will push all enemies out of its way, as well as do significant damage.

When fully grown, the Dire Wolf has an emanation that will reflect 60% of the damage any party members within a 4 meter radius takes back to their attackers. Since the Dire Wolf is a melee fighter however, this emanation usually only reaches the other melee fighters, as they are close together in the brawl. Archers and Mages in the back won’t benefit from it.

Dark Naiad

Dark Naiad
Class: Nature Magic
Attack: Duskbeam
Spell: Fade Wounds
Power: Arboreal Rejuvenation
Emanation: Regeneration

The Dark Naiad is one of two pets available that can consistently heal your party. She can be bought at the Aman’lu pet shop and onwards for 1375 gold. The Dark Naiad looks like a tiny elf when just bought, shrieking and twirling while she fires her dusk beams at enemies. The dusk beam is described as a beam of night energy, it has a range of 10 meters and can go through walls and other obstacles, so a hit is almost guaranteed.

Her spell is Fade Wounds, and like all the spells of pets, is on auto-cast. It functions much like the healing cascade of nature mages, only it can only target one person at first, but the number of targets increases as the Naiad matures. Her power is also a healing ability. Arboreal Rejuvenation heals all party members in a 10 meter radius a medium amount of Hit points. Lastly, her regeneration ability gives an extra 200% to health generation of all party members in a 4 meter radius.

Fire Elemental

Fire Elemental
Class: Combat Magic
Attack: Firestrike
Spell: N/A
Power: Inferno
Emanation: Fire Resistence

Fire Elementals are described in the bestiary as mischievous flame spirits, who relish in watching things burn. Unlike Ice elementals, these pets animate some armour for structure and protection. Fire Elementals can be bought at the Aman’Lu pet shop for 1000 gold. It attacks with a thrown fireball from up to 10 meters away, which explodes over a small area, damaging all enemies within. Its power is Inferno, which acts like a small flamethrower. For 5 seconds, it extends a burst of flame in front of it, damaging all enemies it touches.

Its Emanation is somewhat less useful, 40% fire resistance and +8% magic damage makes it only really useful for mage classes or areas where a lot of fire based enemies reside. The Fire Elemental also tends to run out of mana fairly quickly, so be sure to stock up on mana potions.

Necrolithid

Necrolithid
Class: Combat Magic
Attack: Deathstrike
Spell: Wasting/Dissolution
Power: Decompose
Emanation: Mana Steal

The necrolithid looks like a mix between a Tyrannosaurus and Predator, and has what appears to be a foul odour hanging around him at all times. In reality, this guy is the pet’s equivalent to a Combat Mage specialising in Death magic. Its Death strike is similar to the Grave beam, doing death damage and being able to pass through walls and other obstacles.

The necrolithid is also the only pet that can curse enemies, first it uses Wasting, which reduces the enemy’s armour, but after feeding him enough items, it switches to Dissolution, which not only reduces the enemy’s armour, but also gives it a weakness to death and Ice magic.

Its power, Decompose, is a bit of an odd one. Once activated, toxic gasses are repelled from the Necrolithid, infecting all enemies within a 3 meter radius. Once those enemies die, a portion of their health is absorbed and will heal your party. The infection time is limited though, so be careful not to activate it before the battle begins, rather, wait for the enemies to be softened up a bit, and then activate it. Finally, its emanation gives all party members a 10% mana steal on all their attacks.

Lap Dragon

Lap Dragon
Class: Nature Magic
Attack: Dragon Breath
Spell: Dragon Scales
Power: Draconic Inspiration
Emanation: Dragon Vitality

Along with the necrolithid, the Lap Dragon is the most expensive pet available, and can be acquired from the Kalrathian pet shop for 2250 gold. The lap dragon is the pet’s equivalent of a nature mage specialising in buffs. As the dragon matures, their Dragon Scales add more and more bonuses. First only giving immunity to curses, the dragon later also boosts your resistance to lightning and death magic, but also gives a nice power recharge rate boost.

Its dragon breath attack launches a fireball that will explode on impact, damaging multiple enemies. Its power increases the attack of all other powers activated, this can be fairly good or completely useless, depending on your party make-up. Invulnerability, silence and provoke, for example, will not be effected in any way by this power.

Finally, Dragon vitality gives a nice boost to all your party members attributes. This is the only emanation that increases with level, and will give a generous dexterity boost, and a smaller boost to intelligence and strength.

Mythrilhorn

Mythrilhorn
Class: Melee
Attack: Claw Strike
Spell: N/A
Power: Enrage
Emanation: Defense Aura

The Mythrilhorn is the second pet that must be obtained by fulfilling a quest. Talk to the pet shop owner in Aman’lu to get instructions to find a mage gone melee who will know more. Prove your worth to this mage in Kalrathia, and then hold back the enemies while he tames the mythrilhorn. Once all that is done with, go to the either the Kalrathian pet shop or the one in Aman’lu to buy it for 1750 gold.

The mythrilhorn is best fed fighter armour, as its main focus in the party is to attract enemies away from the other fighters and absorb as much as possible. Notable here also is its auto-provoke. Any enemy it slashes is automatically enraged at it, and will start attacking it.

Its Enrage power is similar to the melee fighters Provoke. With a fashionable range of 10 meters, all enemies will focus their attention on the mythrilhorn, leaving you with time either to escape or do some nice Area of Effect damage. It’s emanation gives a nice, simple 12% boost to your parties armour.

Light Naiad

Light Naiad
Class: Nature Magic
Attack: Duskbeam
Spell: Abolish Wounds
Power: Arboreal Rejuvenation
Emanation: Regeneration

The light Naiad is very similar to its dark cousin, with a few distinct differences. First, of course, is it’s method of obtainment. The Light Naiad can only be bought after you establish yourself as champion of the Aman’Lu arena, where she can be purchased by 1375 gold.

Its attacks are the same, dusk beam magic that can penetrate walls and do a nice bit of damage. The light Naiad is slightly better at healing, and has a better resistance to the elements as well.
